Poppies Art Glass Lamp Base

This wonderful Consolidated Glass lamp base is made of white luster glass in a mold of poppy flowers, leaf and stem. Below the rim is a secondary rim to support the lamp neck. The lamp base bottom has a pre-formed electrical cord knockout that is still in place. This mid 1930’s lamp base is in excellent condition; there are no cracks, scratches or repairs; small chip on inside secondary rim. There is no manufacture mark, circa 1930-1940’s. COMPANY INFORMATION: Founded in 1893, The Consolidated Lamp and Glass Company were formed as the result of a merger of Fostoria Shad & Lamp Company of Ohio and Wallace and McAfee Company of Pennsylvania. Consolidated produced art glass shades, lamps and globes; later producing patterned glass tableware. By 1910 Consolidated was the largest lighting glass firm in the USA. In 1926 Consolidated’s Reuben Haley Martele (meaning hand forged) imitating the Lalique style. In 1927 the Catalonian line with free form designed in bubble or blister glass. In 1928 Ruba Rombic was a geometric design. From 1932-1936 the Great Depression cased Consolidated to close, but the popular molds were lent to the Phoenix Glass Col, where production continued under the name Phoenix Reuben-Line. The molds were returned to Consolidated in 1936; although Phoenix developed tthere own line similar to Martele. In 1964 the Consolidated plant closed after a fire and was not rebuilt.
